The cost of college is high. Do you know someone who might benefit from a Huntington’s Hope scholarship? Scholarships are available to current residents of the United States who plan to enroll for a minimum of half-time undergraduate study in an accredited two or four-year post-secondary educational program. In the last 20 years, the cost of college textbooks has increased at twice the rate of inflation, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Prices for college textbooks  nearly tripled from December 1986 to December 2004, while inflation rose 72 percent. Education is important. Not only does it have the ability to enhance a person’s self-esteem and self-confidence, but it also increases an individual’s earning power throughout his or her lifetime. According to a report by the U.S. Census Bureau, issued in July 2002, working adults between the ages of 25 and 64 earned an increasing income based on their education levels. Donations are now being collected for Huntington’s Hope scholarships. These scholarships will help children of parents with Huntington’s disease come one step closer to achieving their dreams. When $25,000 in donations has been reached, scholarships can be disbursed. There will be four Huntington’s Hope scholarships available, each for $1,000, which may be renewed for up to four years, provided the applicant meets established criteria. Recipients... (more...)
